Creating Theatre that provokes, connects, and transforms.

Rocky Ji is an award‑winning director and creative producer with over 18 years of international experience across directing, development, and artistic leadership. His work spans Canada, India, the UK, and the US, with experience across independent, regional, and mid‑scale producing theatres, major multi‑venue festivals, and collaborations with large institutions through mentorships, residencies, and development contexts.

His directing practice focuses on clarity of storytelling and a strong sense of theatrical form, shaped through work on both new writing and reimagined classics. Significant directing credits include the mid‑scale production of The Jungle Book (Alberta Theatre Projects, 2022) and the large‑scale 30th‑anniversary production of All’s Well That Ends Well (Co‑Director, Bard on the Beach, 2019). Alongside this, he continues to develop new projects including Dreams Across Borders (New York, 2025) and his proprietary Bollywood‑inspired musical Desi ROMEO (India, 2020–2026).

Rocky brings experience supporting rehearsal and production processes in a range of contexts and sizes, including assistant and co‑directing roles, recasts, remounts, touring adaptations, and productions requiring coordination across multiple creative teams and rehearsal rooms. His approach emphasises precision, consistency, and collaboration—qualities shaped through work within institutional, repertory, and multi‑room environments.

Alongside directing, Rocky has led and supported artistic programming, commissioning, and creative development pipelines within producing theatres and multi‑project platforms. He has also served in senior leadership roles within mid‑scale organisations, including work as an Artistic Director, Executive Director, and Artistic Producer. Across these roles, he has contributed to more than 60 productions, including 36 premieres and 16 touring projects (9 international). His work includes founding and leading initiatives focused on new work, artist development, and international collaboration.

He has contributed to projects with significant international life, including co‑presenting the Canadian tour of Piya Behrupiya—a Hindi adaptation of Twelfth Night commissioned by Shakespeare’s Globe—as well as the multi‑award‑winning Nirbhaya (winner of the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award and the Fringe First Award, two of the most prestigious honours at the Edinburgh Fringe). He also led the Calgary presentation of the regional revival tour of Kim’s Convenience, a multiple‑award‑winning and record‑breaking box‑office success. His practice has been further informed by mentorships, residencies, and artistic discussions studying regional mounts of popular works such as Hadestown and Six, and the Off‑Broadway premiere of Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding.

Originally from Mumbai and now based in London, Rocky is a British Indian artist endorsed by Arts Council England under the Global Talent programme. His work has received multiple honours, including Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards, Betty Mitchell Awards, and the Vancouver NOW Representation & Inclusion Award. He is currently expanding his directing and creative development practice across mid‑scale and large‑scale theatre in the UK, with a growing focus on both commercial and regional producing contexts.
