Work & Practice
Rocky Ji is an award-winning director working across theatre and interdisciplinary performance, with experience spanning Canada, India, the UK, and the US. His work ranges from intimate pieces to mid-scale productions, alongside experience supporting and collaborating on larger-scale work.
His practice brings together narrative, movement, music, and visual storytelling. He champions new work and underrepresented voices, while also reimagining classical and contemporary texts through a global and culturally rooted lens.
He is particularly interested in directing work that balances scale with precision, and spectacle with clarity of storytelling.
Alongside directing, Rocky develops new work across theatre, dance, and interdisciplinary forms, working across a range of roles and collaborative contexts.
His work has been developed through residencies, workshops, and international collaborations and partnerships across the UK, North America and beyond.
His approach to development is collaborative and iterative, often working across languages, cultures, and forms. He is interested in building pathways for work to move from development to production and touring, including new work, adaptations, and the reimagining of existing material for new contexts and audiences.
Rocky works across collaborative, facilitation, and consulting contexts, engaging with artists, organisations, and institutions through workshops, residencies, and development processes.
His experience includes supporting rehearsal rooms, working across multiple creative teams, and contributing to projects in both independent and institutional settings.
He has also held leadership, executive, and producing roles across grassroots and mid-scale organisations. He continues to engage in conversations around access, equity, and pathways within the theatre ecology, while building partnerships across the UK and internationally.
